Vice Chairman, Donations

Diana Tharp

I’m Diana, I was born in Norfolk General, and I have lived in the area for my entire life.  Proudly call myself a Native of this great place.  My career began in 1987, I became a 911 Operator with Virginia Beach Police for ten years, in 1997 I attended the Chesapeake   Police Department police academy and graduated and spent the next twenty years serving the citizens of the City of Chesapeake.  I retired at the rank of Sergeant on March 1, 2018.  All in all, I had a little over 30 years of service in Law Enforcement.  Since, my retirement I began attending church at Centerville Baptist Church, which led me to the Burfoot House, I first became a mentor and now I am currently one of two Assistant Directors for the program.

I always had a vision and a dream of having my ministry and Centerville Baptist helped me make that dream come true.  Within a few years, I was able to join the church, and before I knew it I was doing fundraising events to help raise money for my shed for my ministry “Detra’s Angels”, which is named after my mother who passed away in 2016.  My small ministry has blessed many of our church families, Burfoot House clients, several schools in our area, senior citizen living facilities, West Virginia, and just recently I helped a friend mail items to Tanzania.  I am very proud to say that Detra’s Angels is a blessing to many people almost daily.

Since retirement, I became more involved with my Fraternal Order of Police, and for the past three years, I have served as the President of my lodge.  Every Christmas our lodge sponsors twenty underprivileged kids and takes them on a shopping spree with Police officers and Sheriffs from our lodge.  The kids have a great time shopping, and after that, they return to our lodge and meet with Santa for photos and lunch.  A great day for everyone.

Since retiring my life has not slowed down at all, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
